Frequently Asked Questions

Insurance & Claims

Do I have to use the body shop my insurance recommends?

No. In Texas, you have the legal right to choose your own repair shop. Your insurance company cannot require you to use their preferred shop. We work directly with all major Houston insurers and handle all adjuster communication on your behalf.

Can I choose my own body shop if my insurance has a "preferred shop list"?

Yes — and this is one of the most important things to know. In Texas, you have the legal right to choose any licensed repair shop, regardless of what your insurance company recommends. The insurance company cannot require you to use their preferred or direct repair shops. Those lists exist for the insurer's convenience, not yours. We work directly with all major carriers and handle adjuster communication on your behalf.

What if the insurance estimate doesn't cover all the damage?

This is extremely common, and it's exactly what we fight for on your behalf. Initial insurance estimates are often underpaid — adjusters work fast, and hidden damage is frequently missed. Once we have your car and do a full inspection, we document all damage and submit a supplement to your insurer. We advocate directly with the adjuster and do not release your vehicle until all covered repairs are authorized and completed correctly.

Does Santa Ana work with USAA, State Farm, Progressive, and other major insurers?

Yes. We are a preferred direct repair shop for State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Nationwide, AAA, Amica, Kemper, Elephant Insurance, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, Farmers, and Travelers. We direct-bill your insurer and handle the claim from first contact to final pickup.

What is a supplement, and why might I need one?

A supplement is an updated repair authorization submitted to your insurer when additional damage is discovered after the initial estimate — which happens on the majority of collision repairs. We handle all supplements on your behalf. You are never required to accept an underpaid initial estimate as the final word.

Will my insurance rate go up if I file a collision repair claim?

It depends on fault and your policy. If you were not at fault, rates typically should not increase. For minor damage close to your deductible amount, paying out of pocket sometimes makes more financial sense. We'll give you an honest recommendation on which path works best for your situation.

Do you handle the entire insurance claim process?

Yes. Give us your claim number and we take over completely — contacting your adjuster, negotiating for OEM parts, arranging your rental car, and keeping you updated. Most customers never have to speak with their insurance company's repair department at all.

Repair Process & Timeline

How does the free estimate work?

You can get an estimate two ways: in person at either Houston location (no appointment required during business hours), or virtually by submitting photos through our online estimate tool. Virtual estimates are reviewed and returned within 1 business hour during business hours. Both are completely free with no obligation.

What is your average repair turnaround time?

Our average turnaround is 8 business days. We provide a written timeline estimate at the start of every repair, and you receive real-time text message updates throughout the process — no need to call and ask. Timelines vary depending on the extent of damage, parts availability, and insurance authorization speed.

Do you offer pickup and delivery?

Yes. Free vehicle pickup and delivery is included on every repair at Santa Ana Body Shop — regardless of repair size or whether insurance is involved. We come to your home or office to pick up the vehicle and deliver it back to you when the repair is complete.

What happens if additional damage is found once my car is disassembled?

We photograph and document everything before contacting you and your adjuster. We never proceed with additional repairs without your authorization. You are kept fully informed at every step, and we handle the supplement process with your insurer directly.

Paint, Parts & Quality

Will my repaired panels match the original paint exactly?

Yes. We use computerized color formula matching technology to achieve an exact factory color match — not an approximation. Our climate-controlled spray booths eliminate the environmental factors (humidity, dust, temperature variation) that cause color inconsistency in lesser shops. Every paint repair is covered by our lifetime warranty.

Do you use OEM parts or aftermarket parts?

We advocate for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts on every repair and fight insurance estimates that specify aftermarket alternatives. In some cases — particularly older vehicles — aftermarket or quality remanufactured parts may be appropriate, and we'll always discuss this transparently with you before proceeding.

What does your lifetime warranty cover?

Our lifetime warranty covers all parts, paint, and workmanship on every repair — for as long as you own the vehicle. If anything we repaired fails due to our materials or craftsmanship, we fix it at no charge. This applies to both insurance-paid and out-of-pocket repairs.

Cost & Payment

What does collision repair cost in Houston without insurance?

Minor repairs typically cost $300–$900. Moderate collision damage runs $1,000–$3,500. Major structural or frame damage may exceed $5,000. We offer free estimates and 0% financing so cost never delays a safe repair in Houston.

What if I can't afford my deductible right now?

We offer 0% financing on deductibles through a simple online application. You can get your car repaired immediately and pay the deductible over time with no interest. Cost should never delay a safe repair.

What does bumper repair typically cost in Houston without insurance?

Minor bumper scuffs and paint transfer typically run $300–$600. Cracked covers that require replacement and repainting are typically $700–$1,400 depending on the vehicle. We provide a free, written estimate with no obligation before any work begins.

What does hail damage repair cost in Houston?

Hail repair cost depends entirely on the number and severity of dents across the vehicle's surface. A typical moderate Houston hail event can result in $2,000–$6,000+ in damage. Hail damage is typically covered by comprehensive insurance with no fault impact on your rates. We document every impact point and fight for full settlement coverage.

Certifications & Locations

What is I-CAR Gold Class certification?

I-CAR Gold Class is the collision repair industry's highest training certification, held by fewer than 15% of U.S. body shops. It means our technicians are trained to current manufacturer repair standards — not just close enough — which is why major Houston insurers work directly with us.

What does GM Certified Repair Network mean for my vehicle?

GM Certified status means we are authorized and trained to repair GM vehicles — including Corvettes, Camaros, Silverados, Tahoes, and others — according to General Motors' own repair specifications. Santa Ana is one of only 15 certified Corvette repair shops in Texas. This matters for warranty preservation, insurance claims on GM vehicles, and resale value.

Step-by-Step Guide

What to do after a car accident in Houston

Follow these steps to protect yourself, your vehicle, and your insurance claim.

In Texas, you have the legal right to choose your own body shop — even if your insurance company recommends a different one. Your insurer cannot require you to go to their preferred shop. Here's what to do from the moment of impact to completed repair.

  1. 1
Move to safety and call 911

If the vehicles are driveable, move to the shoulder or a parking lot. Call 911 even for minor accidents — a police report protects you if the other driver's story changes later.

  2. 2
    Document everything at the scene

Take photos of all vehicle damage, the other driver's license plate, insurance card, and driver's license. Get contact info from any witnesses. Do not admit fault.

  3. 3
    Call your insurance company

Report the accident to your insurer as soon as possible to open a claim. They'll assign you a claim number — write it down or take a photo.

  4. 4
Choose your body shop — before the adjuster does

You have the legal right to choose your own repair shop in Texas. Insurance companies may push you toward their "preferred" shops, but you are not obligated to go there. Choose a shop you trust.

  5. 5
Hand your claim number to Santa Ana — we do the rest

Once you bring your claim number to us, we contact your adjuster, negotiate for OEM parts, arrange your rental, and handle every detail. You don't deal with insurance at all.
